Fat from the remains of slaughtered cows and pigs is now being used to create environmentally friendly diesel fuel
Call it real fossil fuel. Starting this summer, drivers of diesel-powered vehicles will be able to fill their tanks with fuel made from the fat of dead animals, thanks to a new factory on Jutland.
Daka Biodiesel began production of the unusual fuel, which uses the remains of animals from slaughterhouses to create the clean combustible that significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions from diesel vehicles. By this summer the company hopes to supply 65 service stations in northern Jutland with the biofuel, which will also be used by Århus area public transport busses.
'This is one of the best biodiesels around because it reduces greenhouse gases while also saving on resources,' said Henrik Wenzel, professor at the University of Southern Denmark's Institute for Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Technology.
